An old square in Brescia. I tend to head straight through the centre of cities but run the risk of getting lost in pedestrian-only areas. Interesting but time consuming. |
The weather was like a Spring day and it looks set to stay dry for the next few days. Again, the terrain was flat and pretty dull, the traffic and I looked forward to my trip up the left hand side of Lake Garda tomorrow. The only problem was a shortage of suitable camping spots after leaving Brescia (the old part of town is a World Heritage site and worth a visit). I was hoping to pitch the tent in the daylight but it was quite a built up area. I kept going hoping for better things closer to Lake Garda but not so. Expensive houses, fences, guard dogs, yappy dogs. I took a side road up into the mountains but this area must be hugely important for white marble because the mountainside was being eaten away in huge blocks and this was just a service road for quarry after quarry. The roads were covered in a thick white slurry which stuck to everything. I headed back to the main road and kept going until eventually I found a patch of grass behind a factory. Oh well.
I liked the fusion of old and new. Just an idea if you've got an old tower needs renovating in the back garden. |
